Peter Karutz
A founding member of the Melbourne Guitar Quartet, Peter is well known and respected among the Melbourne guitar community. An energetic and vibrant player, Peter captures listeners with depth of musical expression and maturity in his performing. Graduating in 2005 from the Victorian College of the Arts, Peter completed his studies as one of the highest achieving musicians. In his final year he was awarded the prestigious Athenaeum Award through a rigorous interdepartmental competition.
In recent years, Peter's attention has been drawn to that of education. Having taught in schools throughout Melbourne such as Mount Lilydale Mercy College, Balwyn High, Melbourne High, Trinity Grammar, Presentation College Windsor, and Methodist Ladies College, Peter is a valued and experienced member of the Melbourne's education system.
In 2008 Peter took studies in a Master of Teaching at Melbourne University, where he consolidated his experience with current educational theory. In doing this, he received first class honors in two professional placement components of the course.
To further professional development and depth of knowledge within education areas, Peter also studied and taught (in addition to classroom and instrumental music) Maths, Geography, and ESL (English as a second language).Peter complemented the Master of Teaching with a Master of Education at Melbourne University in 2010, where he excelled in areas of management and leadership. Now a TESOL specialist and evening coordinator at NMIT, Peter enjoys a balance of teaching and performing with MGQ.
Peter is also arranging new works for guitar family, to be premiered by the Melbourne Guitar Quartet.
